Enhance Your Understanding Of Fly Rods

If you are going to understand fly rods, you must have an understanding of fly fishing. In fly fishing, you move the rod back and forth smoothly through the air, and at just the right time, you let the line out, allowing gravity and inertia to send it across the water to land at the perfect spot. Fly rods made from bamboo are great because the bamboo is flexible, lightweight, and has a sensitive feel to them.

When it comes to casting, bamboo rods give you the feel that makes fly fishing fun. Once you get your hands on a natural rod, you usually don't want to use anything else. Try one of these rods and feel the difference between them and the composite rods.

If you do an online search about bamboo rods, you will find plenty of information about them including how to care for them, how to make them, where to buy them, etc. Frequently you can even find antique rods for sale-some possibly made before the first World War. Most people would not use the antique rods for fishing but would make a display of them in a case or on the wall.

Fly fishermen almost consider their sport as they woudld a religion. The art and techniques of fly fishing are debated hotly among enthusiasts. There is a lot more substance in fly fishing than regular fishing. It requires practice and dedication to learn the intricacies of the sport. It is the ultimate relaxer for those good at it.

If you are a beginner, it is important to select the right fly rod. With the many varieties and styles, choosing a good rod can be rather complex. This is no easy task.

As previously hinted, bamboo rods have been in existence for quite some time and are used for the most popular and traditional fly rods. The early 1800s seems to be the time range generally agreed upon for the creation of the first bamboo rod but I would bet it was sooner..

Bamboo is considered the optimum choice because it contains all the right qualities for a great product, balancing the action and the length of the rod. Tonkin bamboo, is the most popular bamboo used to make fly rods. The bamboo, which is from China, has a great fiber count that makes it best for flexing.

Before bamboo was discovered for fly fishing, the tropical wood called greenheart, found in the province of Guangdong in China was commonly used as the material for rods in fly fishing. Bamboo rods have retained their popularity despite the growing number of fiberglass and graphite rods. Bamboo or split cane rods are well known for their fine form, solid mass, strength and of course the grace it offers for thefly fishermen.

For advanced fly fishermen, bamboo rods are often chosen over the ones made from fiberglass or graphite, because of the time consumed and dedication that a rod maker gives is already a statement of quality and assurance. Workmanship is usually considered one of the strong points when you looking at a bamboo rod.

The downside to a good bamboo rod is hte cost. Bamboo rods are rather expensive. Quality rods can run over $2000. This is one reason you don't see as many of them as you do the composite rod. Composite rods are cheaper than a natural made bamboo rod.
