Antique Fishing Reels

Collecting the oldest models of antique fishing reels has been a hobby for many. These rare fishing reels fetch high prices. Fishing enthusiasts can find photographs of antique fishing reels and other relevant information are displayed online.

The internet has many different sources for information on antique fishing reels.  While researching this, I came across the name of Edward F. Small.  Small was working as an engineering New England when he designed a swivel chair intended for use on railroad cars.  His employer offered to purchase his design.  He rejected their offer and they went on to produce the chair despite the objection.  He sued and was awared royaties for the units sold.

In June, 1949, he submitted a patent application for a side mounted spinning reel.  The patent was granted in June, 1950.  It was produced and sold as the Cormorant Spinning Reel.

Small's reel designs were sold in Sears stores as the Ted Williams (Hall of Fame left fielder for baseball's Boston Red Sox.) model.  This model is one of today's antique fishing reels.
